We finally saw the sun late yesterday afternoon. This morning the sun rose and it was dry all day long. It may be a while before the ground is dry again. I worked today so it wasn't until after dinner that I was able to go out for a tour of inspection around the yard. I didn't plan on working but couldn't help pulling up some weeds with my bare hands (left the garden gloves in the shed). It felt good to have dirt under my fingernails again. On my rounds is saw the following: one of the rhododendrons is showing signs of getting ready to bloom, so are my white irises, the grass seed we planted has begun to sprout, and the honeysuckle bush by the woods is full of buds ready to burst.
The birds have also been busy! I refilled the feeders this evening. Over the course of the day I saw: a humming bird (the first of the season), blue jays, cardinals (male and female), chickadees, juncos, gold finches, sparrows, mourning doves, robins, nuthatch, titmouse, and for the first time I believe I saw a Rufous-side Towhee. The humming bird must have been desperate because it tried eating from the silk flowers on my front door wreath. It was funny to watch.
